Toneleria del Sur was founded by Rafael Cabello, an skilled and experienced cooper based in the Montilla Moriles área, in southern Spain. His inception in the business was in the seventies, when he was only 12 years old, in a renowned local firm called Toneleria Miguel Casado, founded in the sixties.
It was 1974 when Rafael sets up Toneleria Hermanos Cabello, leading this firm for 32 years’ time. This firm turns Toneleria del Sur in 2005 by the time his children Rafa and Nadia join up the project.
Rafa Cabello, born and bred in a coopers ‘environment, starts off his professional career in 1996. Trained by skilled Master Coopers from the family-run business, he becomes Master Cooper just in 2007 applying the knowledge gained towards the making of premium casks specializing in the barrel aging process from diverse wine varieties from different wine producing areas, imparting notes in spirits and brews through seasoning methods. Rafael learns about the distilling process from Mathew Hoffman´s technical expertise. Mr. Hoffman, Seattle based Westland Distillery´s Master Distiller as the whole Westland family, foster Rafa in his distillery for a while.
Nadia Cabello, once graduated from the University, joins the family business in 2006 turning the firm’s logistics, quality and administration Manager.
At present the company enjoys an ISO 9001/2008 quality certification targeted on quality, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and fully eco-friendly and sustainable procedures.
